■ Why data centres are moving to water mist fire protection Water mist fire suppression technologies specifically developed for digital facilities, have become the preferred fire solution for a growing number of data centre operators. High-density processing technologies, lithium-ion batteries and environmental legislation are just some of the growing fire safety concerns faced by data centres. Legacy fire systems, such as traditional sprinklers and chemical suppression, can lead to costly downtime when operated and do not support carbon reduction goals. Water mist acts fast to suppress fire and heat and only uses small amounts of water. Water mist systems also bring  major design advantages. Smaller pumps and water tanks free up valuable space, while systems can be scaled up or adapted to evolving tenant needs.\

Supporting green data centre objectives Data centres are targeting the highest possible ratings for environmental performance and increasingly aligning with sustainability frameworks such as LEED, the Uptime Institute’s sustainability and energy efficiency guidance, and the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centres. Fireworks’ water mist solutions actively support data centres’ sustainable goals through exceptionally low water consumption, reduced raw materials and improved energy efficiency. The environmental impact of data centre fire protection systems, during installation and throughout the complete lifetime and operation, is reduced. Less raw materials - Water mist systems require significantly less raw materials than sprinklers, due to their lower water volumes, leading to smaller pumps, water tanks, pipes, and components. Smaller components result in reduced transport emissions and lower space requirements. Lower Water Consumption – Water mist systems use much less water than traditional sprinklers, which also minimises water run-off and potential pollution after activation. Lower Power Requirements – Lower water volumes used by misting systems reduce energy consumption.
