Leak testing for safety-critical cooling system components in data centres with INFICON's XL3000flex

INFICON Stand: J110

We are the first manufacturer of industrial leak testing and leak detection equipment to offer solutions for leak testing safety-critical components in data centre cooling. At Data Centre World London (stand J110), we will explain which testing methods and devices are suitable for the various liquid cooling components. Whether cold plates, rack manifolds or quick disconnect couplings (QDC), for example: cooling components at rack level in particular must be tested for leaks on the production line.

Given the immense investment involved, even a single leak through which liquid propylene glycol (propane-1,2-diol) escapes into an AI rack can easily cause millions in hardware damage – not to mention the often even higher costs of downtime. At our stand, we will show visitors how quick disconnect couplings can be tested for maximum tightness using our highly reliable LDS3000 and XL3000flex industrial leak detectors.

Our XL3000flex industrial sniffer leak detector can detect the smallest leak rates down to 2xE-7 mbar∙l/s. However, as a sniffer leak detector, it does not require a vacuum chamber. The test gas is drawn in by the flow through the sniffer tip which can be guided manually or automatically by a robot arm over the component. The XL3000flex can use either helium or hydrogen as the test gas – more specifically, a non-flammable mixture of 5% hydrogen and 95% nitrogen, also known as forming gas. The XL3000flex is equipped with a high gas flow rate of 3000 sccm, which is indispensable, especially for hard-to-reach leak spots or when using robots that pass by a potential leak spot at high speed.

Sniffer testing with the XL3000flex can be used in the production line instead of the vacuum method with the LDS3000. In addition, the XL3000flex is suitable for rework: it can be used to locate the exact position of leaks on parts that have failed a previous integral leak test.
