Edward is the Met Office IT Fellow for Data Science and an award-winning thought leader in applied AI. Consistent with his expertise in environmental intelligence, and over a decade of making high-impact science contributions spanning academia, industry and government, is his experience and enjoyment of working with both internal and external colleagues and collaborators to help them look around corners and capitalize on new and emerging technological opportunities to unlock pioneering approaches for radically enhanced weather and climate related decision-making – helping de-risk multi-million pound operations, ensure safety of life, and evolve sector-wide standards (and aspirations) for the use of meteorological and oceanographic information. His academic background includes a PhD in Marine Physics and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Physical Oceanography at the University of Plymouth; with his influence extending internationally through multiple international learned society, journal editorial, joint industry project and cross-governmental working group advisory roles.
