Hamish Steptoe is a Senior Data Scientist and Statistician at the Met Office, where his work focuses on fostering climate resilience and weather-related decision-making. With a strong foundation in probabilistic methods and a versatile skill set across Python and R, Hamish specialises in producing insightful and interpretable analyses on complex topics ranging from tropical cyclones to extreme rainfall events. From Bangladesh to Botswana, Tajikistan to Thailand, Hamish’s time at the Met Office working in international development has contributed to projects that have spanned the globe, covering Europe, Africa, and Asia.  Hamish is passionate about using data to drive meaningful decision making, whether developing probabilistic models to assess risk or translating complex datasets into actionable insights.  He enjoys mentoring others in statistical thinking and coding practices and continues to explore innovative ways to bridge science and society through data.
