Ian Bitterlin
Professor Emeritus
With 57 years in engineering, and 36 years’ experience in the data-centre industry, Ian worked in several C-Suite roles in leading UK, European, and USA OEMs, culminating in CTO for Emerson Network Power, the world’s foremost data centre power and cooling OEM, with 8 years as Visiting Professor to the University of Leeds. Since 2019 Ian has continued as keynote speaker, trainer, industry advisor, Expert Witness, and on the DCA Advisory Board.
An author of many papers on critical power and cooling, with presentations and keynote speeches globally, Ian was contributor to the Electrical Guide K of CIBSE, and author of a data centre power system design guide.
Formally a Fellow of the IET, Member of both CIBSE and the BCS, serving on Councils and Committees, Technical Chair of the Data Centre Council of techUK, Chair of the DCSG of the BCS, Accredited Tier Designer of the Uptime Institute and Chair of the Technical Working Group in EMEA for The Green Grid, BSI UK expert on data-centre standards committees, including Expert Member of EN50600 and a Project Editor of ISO 30134 ‘Resource Efficient Data Centres’.
