As Facilities and Operations Director in Redcentric Data Centres my current remit covers both the engineering and the Data Centre customer services teams. I studied computer science at school in the 1970’s learning basic, sending my punch cards to the country council offices to get the printout results to show if the program worked a week later! How things have changed! My first appointment in Data Centre related activities was running the operations team for Sprintel Communications 27 years ago then WIN PLC, Blue Square, InTechnology and now Redcentric. Having been instrumental in the design, fit out, operation and decommission of data centres I have a deep understanding in the shifting sand that represents our client’s evolving needs and especially the challenges in re-engineering around an existing operational facility. Balancing the needs for sustainable operation, increasing power density, with the twin sisters of service level agreements and profitability pretty much summaries by daily work life. I love to travel especially on my Triumph Motorcycle
