Design and Build & Physical Security
Hyperscale data centre operators are rapidly expanding compute clusters for AI applications with significantly increasing peak in power demands. While today's high performance computing racks have a power density of 100 kW, hyperscale data centre operators and GPU vendors are forecasting AI racks with a power density of 600 kW. With this trajectory, the data centre power distribution infrastructure is facing a deep going transformation that presents multiple challenges:
- High power density racks require more space for compute units, which limits the space for the power supply units.
- Today's infrastructure cannot distribute this amount of power due to temperature limitations.
- The availability of the connection power for the data centre is limited by the location.
On top of this, we have an environment of economic uncertainty, high energy demands that come with higher costs and ambitious sustainability targets.
Direct Current is an enabling technology that provides answers to these challenges. It promises increased efficiency, reduced costs and realizing a reliable and resilient energy system. This session will provide an overview of how data centre operators are transforming from today's power infrastructure to the AI infrastructure of the future and how direct current is enabling the deployment of AI technology at large scale.
