Strategic Resilience Through Appropriate Scale: Distributed Compute, Energy and Sovereignty
Resilience is often framed in terms of redundancy, backup power, and compliance. But true resilience is strategic as well as operational.
This session explores how distributed compute and right-sized infrastructure can strengthen resilience at a systems level. It examines how energy diversity, heat networks, and interconnected regional facilities can reduce grid dependency, supply-chain concentration, and geopolitical exposure, while supporting sustainability and performance goals.
Drawing on practical experience with shared fibre backbones and smaller, networked data centres, the presentation considers how well-integrated regional facilities can align with renewable generation and heat recovery, lower systemic risk, and support public-sector ambitions for meaningful data sovereignty.
As regulatory, energy, and geopolitical pressures intensify, the industry will need to complement hyperscale concentration with greater architectural diversity. Strategic resilience can be built through appropriate scale.
